Computer and Information Technology
The Computer and Information Technology (CIT) department is located exclusively at the regional campuses of Miami University in both Hamilton, and Middletown, Ohio. We offer associate degree programs and courses in computing and information technology that support the needs of area business and industry. The regional campuses allow students to enjoy the benefits of both a small, personalized campus setting and the assurance that their investment in their education is grounded in a solid technical degree program and the esteemed, national reputation of Miami University. The CIT faculty are industry-experienced teachers committed to the success of students and to keeping pace with ever-changing technology.
The Computer and Information Technology (career option) major allows the choice of one of four concentrations that are essential to computing: IT Support, Networking, Software Development and Support, or Visual Media Technology.
- The IT Support concentration prepares students to meet the needs of today’s employers who are looking for help desk staff familiar with standard support methodologies, strong problem solving skills, and good interpersonal communication skills.
- The Networking concentration prepares students to design, install, support, and maintain security for computer networks, maintain hardware and software, and analyze and troubleshoot problems.
- The Software Development and Support concentration prepares students to design, create and maintain programs in a variety of current programming languages, understand and use operating systems, and use and support application programs.
- The Visual Media Technology concentration combines the study of art and technology and prepares students to produce and manipulate visual media for computer-base communication, marketing, education and entertainment.
Miami also offers another associate degree program - Computer Technology (continuation option). This program is essentially half of the courses in the bachelors degree major in Computer Science or Systems Analysisand these programs can be completed at the Oxford campus.
