SEAS Large Format Printer
Located in KRG204 is a large format printer (HP DesignJet 800PS -- 42") for faculty, staff, and student use. Standard paper is 42" wide continuous feed glossy paper. Standard cost is $4.00 a linear foot.
Designing material to be printed on this printer is somewhat more complicated than designing documents for desktop printing. Please keep the following important tips in mind:
- The printouts are BIG.
- DO NOT USE WEB GRAPHICS. Do not stretch JPEG, GIF, PNG, or BMP graphics to print on the printer. Even if it looks fine on the screen (96 DPI), it will not look good on paper (600 DPI). Don't do it. NEVER do it with university logos.
- Things take longer to print. If the pages must be reformated because they were designed in a non-design package, they will take at least half a day longer. Please submit your printout needs 24 hours in advance.
- PowerPoint is a presentation package, not a design package. Adobe InDesign is a design package.
- The printer speaks a slightly different dialect than your desktop printer. Text in front of a gradient that looks great on your printer might be a big, black box on the large format printer.
- The colors the printer use are correct, even if they do not match your expectations, especially PowerPoint. For exact color management, refer to information on PANTONE color matching.
- AutoCAD drawings should print fine. Talk to someone to have the cut sheet (ANSI E) paper loaded for a discount if this is for MME coursework.
