SEAS-IT Summer 07 Projects
Software Requests for Fall
Summer is almost here, which means it’s the time when we shift into project mode. Do we know of your needs for the fall? Creating a secure, robust computing environment of a hundred applications for over a thousand users means we need plenty of lead time to figure out application interaction (I like to point to how AutoCAD made inserting graphics in PowerPoint take 15 minutes for students). Please tell us what software you need for the fall by July 15 and we should have test systems available the week before classes so you can ensure all the functionality you need is present.
Email Calendaring Migration
The email migration for SEAS is scheduled for the week of July 9th. Calendaring data will be migrated from MeetingMaker to Exchange on July 23rd. As the date for the migration approaches we will be sending out more details about the migration process. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us or checkup the MUConnect website.
Office 2007
Over the summer we will be installing Office 2007 on all of our computers running Windows. The three driving factors behind the upgrade are that we will be teaching Office 2007 in the fall, Office 2007 will be the only version of Office available to students in the Fall and the new Exchange Email and Calendering server works best with Office 2007.
There are several new features and dramatic changes to to the look and feel of Office 2007. In order to ease the transition to Office 2007, SEAS-IT will have training sessions on how to use the new version of Office in August.
Going on Vacation?
Barracuda, Miami's spam filtering appliance, is currently configured to only hold quarantined mail for 14 days. If you know that you are not going to be able to check your email for an extended period of time I would recommend that you change your settings in Barracuda to be less restrictive. This will ensure that you do not have to worry about email being purged out of Barracuda before you have a chance to review the messages.
If you have any questions about how to configure Barracuda please let us know or you can checkup the Knowlege Base article.
