CSE Student Advisory Council

The CSE Student Advisory Council is comprised of a panel of students who work closely with Dr. Troy, the CSE Department Chair, to coordinate various activities within the department, as well as discuss any departmental issues that may arise. The council acts as a liaison between the CSE student body and the faculty and administration, and gives students the opportunity to voice their opinions. Aside from providing an outlet for student ideas, the council is involved with community service projects.

In the past couple years, the CSE Student Advisory Council has:

  • Interviewed potential professor candidates seeking employment with the CSE Department
  • Helped plan and coordinate CSE Week, including the CSE Alumni Conference
  • Implemented a Technology Corridor, a themed corridor for students in first-year dorms
  • Helped revise a professor mentorship program
  • Organized the first All Majors Meeting, which included the first State of the Department Address
  • Helped plan a campus wide launch for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
  • Met with prospective Miami students to answer questions regarding life at Miami as well as opportunities within the School of Engineering and Applied Science
  • Coordinated various social events within the department, including a students vs. faculty volleyball game and a CSE picnic
  • Organized a CSE Student Appreciation Reception for faculty and students
  • Planned, organized, and promoted a regional Microsoft sponsored .NET programming competition known as the Imagine Cup

A few of the benefits of joining:

  • Become known as a leader by faculty and administrators in the CSE department
  • Be first to learn about fun and exciting opportunities and events
  • Help make a difference in improving the state of the department
  • Make new friends and have fun too!
