Choose the computer engineering major if you appreciate:

  • marvel at how "1"s and "0"s can do so much;
  • computer graphics such as the thing one can do with CGI;
  • developing new computer hardware and software for future applications;
  • designing new computer games;
  • creating new computer chips; and
  • writing programs for computer design and testing.

What is ABET Accreditation and Why is it Important?
  ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards established by the profession for which it prepares it's students.

  1. Accreditation helps students and their parents choose quality college programs.
  2. Accreditation enables employers to recruit graduates they know are well-prepared.
  3. Accreditation is used by registration, licensure, and certification boards to screen applicants.
  4. Accreditation gives colleges and universities a structured mechanism to assess, evaluate, and improve the quality of their programs.

Choose the electrical engineering major if you appreciate:

  • the intermingling of physics and mathematics;
  • working with high tech electronic equipment;
  • cutting edge technologies like the iPhone and iPod;
  • electromechanical systems such as stepper motors and control systems;
  • working with lasers for optical communications and other applications;
  • developing new power systems for better energy transmissions; and
  • designinig robotic applications.

Choose the engineering management electronics and computing technical speciality major if you are looking for an interdisciplinary education in engineering, business, management science, mathematics, and liberal education.  Many of today's global businesses require graduates with interdisciplinary skills in engineering and business.  You choose an engineering specialty and a Thematic Sequence of courses in another discipline, as well as a variety of choices within the foundation courses of the Miami Plan.  Successful completion of this program will enable you to work with and manage engineers and technicians in an efficacious manner and to effectively communicate with managers in other fields.

Minors for other majors at Miami:

Masters in Computational Science & Engineering Graduate Program

The School of Engineering and Applied Science offers a multidisciplinary research-oriented master's degree in computational science and engineering.  This program has three tracks:  one in Computational Mechanics for students with a bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering; one in communication systems modeling and simulation for students with a BS in electrical or computer engineering; and a thrid in bioinformatics for students with a bachelor's degree in computer science.  For each of these, the MS program consists of 12-16 credit hours of courses from a computational core, 12 credit hours in the engineering or sicence field, and a research-based thesis.
