Nursing Program Overview
Miami University's nationally recognized nursing program opens the door to a rewarding health care career. A Miami nursing degree will give you career mobility in many different health arenas, as well as schedule flexibility, with plenty of opportunities to work part-time, full-time or flex-time. In addition, the need for nurses is growing at a steady rate.
The Department of Nursing is located on Miami University's Hamilton and Middletown campuses. This department offers three nursing programs: baccalaureate, associate degree, and RN-BSN completion. A track for LPNs is embedded in the associate degree curriculum.

During clinical placements, students of Miami’s nursing program benefit from a variety of outstanding experiences in health care systems, including acute care, long-term care, rehabilitation, pediatrics, and community agencies.
Mission of the Department of Nursing
Consistent with Miami University’s commitment to serve the global community, the Department of Nursing accepts the challenge to respond to societal health care needs by offering excellent Associate and Baccalaureate Degree programs. These programs develop critical thinking, integrate accumulated knowledge from nursing, the sciences and humanities, and emphasize the values of caring, accountability, responsibility and professional ethics. The department supports innovative teaching and learning approaches for traditional and non-traditional students and encourages scholarly activities of faculty and students.

Accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission acknowledges the outstanding quality in all aspects of Miami's nursing programs. Job placement and employers' evaluations of nursing graduates are excellent. Miami nursing graduates also have a high pass rate on the state licensure examination.

The nursing faculty are highly qualified both academically and clinically. All nursing faculty hold either master of science or doctoral degrees. Faculty enhance their teaching effectiveness by maintaining clinical practice, attending educational seminars, and presenting their scholarly work and research. State-of-the-art educational technology such as critical care monitoring equipment is available on both campuses and provides opportunities for demonstrating proficiency in clinical skills prior to actual patient care. Multimedia resources, including interactive video, promote individualized instruction.

Meeting minimal criteria for admission to the University does not guarantee admission to any nursing program. It is strongly recommended that all potential applicants to the nursing program meet with a department advisor before submitting an application.
