The Department takes pride in that its primary focus is on undergraduate education. Excellent opportunities for about 290 students enrolled in our four majors are provided by 8 full-time faculty members. Currently a search is underway to recruit another full-time faculty.
The Department offers undergraduate majors in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering (concentrations in biochemical, environmental and paper engineering), Paper Science and Engineering*, and Engineering Management with technical specialty in Paper and Environmental Engineering. The Department also offers a master’s degree program. Students are also encouraged to consider the combined bachelor's/master's degree program.
Students who choose to study paper science in any of the undergraduate majors of the Department are eligible for scholarships offered by the industry-supported Miami University Paper Science and Engineering Foundation.
The Department has designed the co-op program to give students actual working experience in the industry related to their major. Students gain practical knowledge that complements the more formal university course work, as well as financial assistance for the work performed on the job.
Opportunities for international studies are available through the Department’s collaboration with the Helsinki University of Technology. Students can also elect to spend a semester of study at the Luxembourg campus of Miami University.
We encourage students to engage in research under the supervision of the Department faculty. Opportunities for paid summer research are available for our undergraduate students.
*This program is being phased out and no new students will be admitted in Paper Science and Engineering
