What are the admission requirements?
You must have an undergraduate degree in one of the sciences or engineering fields and must provide:
- Undergraduate transcripts
- GRE scores
- Three letters of recommendation
- A written statement of purpose in seeking a Master of Science degree
Is Financial Aid Available?
Graduate Assistantships for full-time graduate students are available per academic year (two semesters) with waiver of all fees except the general fee, and require half-time duties (20 hours a week) assisting faculty. The out-of-state fee is waived for all students holding a graduate assistantship. You can apply for a graduate assistantship when you apply for admission.
Graduate Associateship for the summer is available to graduate students who have had graduate awards in the regular academic year and remain in good academic standing. An associateship requires no duties and carries with it the remission of all fees except the general fee. Summer graduate Assistantships are available in limited numbers to assist the department in its research.
Research Assistantships are available in limited number for assisting the department with research it has contracted through industry.
What are the Graduation Requirements?
For a Master of Science, you must:
- Complete 24 credits of graduate level courses in Engineering as approved by the student's thesis advisor and the graduate director of the Paper and Chemical Engineering Department.
- All courses must be 500 or 600 level courses.
- At least 12 credits must be 600 level courses.
- Take PCE 600, graduate seminar, for each semester enrolled in the program (minimum 4 credits)
- Complete a research thesis udner the driection of a faculty advisor
- Enroll for PCE 700 for a total of 6-10 credits.
- Orally defend your thesis to the faculty of the PCE department
- Present a total of 34-semester hours of credit with a minimum GPA of 3.0
The Master's Degree must be completed within five calendar years, unless an extension of the time is granted through petition to the Graduate School. The normal time period for completion of the degree is two calendar years.
