The Miami University Paper Science and Engineering Foundation has entered a new era and commitment to the paper industry.  For nearly 50 years, the Foundation has supported the needs of the paper and allied industry by providing technically trained graduates for leadership positions.  Today, the Foundation works in partnership with the Paper and Chemical Engineering Department to deliver on the ever changing needs of the industry.

The core of the Foundation’s mission is “attracting and preparing talented young men and women for careers of leadership within the pulp, paper and affiliated industries.”  The Foundation supports this mission through financial support of students by way of scholarships, as well as faculty support by helping to fund their knowledge development.  The Foundation also supports the department by assisting in the acquisition of new equipment for labs.  Outside of the financial support, the Foundation serves as a liaison to the industry by connecting both students and faculty to the companies that will be seeking their talents for employment or research opportunities.

Our pilot paper machine has recently been upgraded and offers our students an outstanding experiential, hands-on learning opportunity that enables them to hit the ground running when they begin their careers in the Paper Industry.  A very good example of our relationship with the industry is evidenced in the wide support we received to allow the machine upgrade to happen.  Major contributors include:

The Miami University Paper Science and Engineering Foundation continues its pursuit of a global presence through the existing alliance with the Helsinki University of Technology, as well as a potential alliance with the South China University of Technology.
