Welcome!

The Paper Science and Engineering (PSE) Foundation at Miami University has a long history of attracting students to careers of leadership in the pulp and paper industry.  Founded by area paper companies in 1960, we have met the needs of the global paper business by providing engineering graduates who speak the unique language of the industry. The Foundation augments the academic curriculum delivered by the Chemical and Paper Engineering (CPE) Department.  We provide the little things that make a big difference to the students: merit based scholarships and key networking contacts to get great jobs.

Perhaps the biggest contribution the PSE Foundation makes is bringing together industry support for the students in the form of scholarship funding and access to co-op jobs, summer internships and permanent jobs upon graduation.  By the time a CPE student is accepted to the program, we begin working with them to develop a deeper understanding of the career options that are available within the global paper industry.  From production to research to sales and marketing, there are a wide variety of high paying jobs that are demanding highly trained engineers.  Each and every year since our founding, there have been more jobs available than we have had students to fill them, and every student has had multiple jobs from which to choose.  Even in trying economic times.

The PSE Foundation depends on annual memberships, both individual and corporate, for the funding needed to support our scholarship program, the paper technology faculty of the CPE Department, and the lab and testing facilities that are among the best in the nation for paper technology. Our Board of Directors has charged us with the challenge of increasing our endowments by $1.5 million to support the expected number of students who will elect to study for careers in the paper industry as a result of the increased demand for graduates.  We would ask that you please consider becoming annual member or making a generous donation so that the Foundation can succeed in our mission.

So why should an individual or company be a member of the PSE Foundation at Miami University? There are many reasons!  First and foremost, your membership enables more students to opt for careers in the paper industry at a time when there is great demand.  There will be thousands of engineers needed every year, and Miami University needs to expand our program to meet that need.  But the real quid pro quo is that our members have premier access to the best and brightest engineering talent in the industry.  We give our members preferential treatment when they are looking for talent, or for individual members, looking for a position in the paper industry.  We essentially are a highly focused networking group that creates a thriving environment that encourages the direct interaction between students, recent graduates and the broader paper industry.  Where else can you efficiently find a high quality class of candidates for paper engineering jobs that need to be filled across such a broad range of career options?  We are here to serve our members and look forward to meeting your needs.

If you would like more information about the PSE Foundation at Miami University, please contact us by phone or email.  We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
