Eligibility

Freshmen

The Paper & Chemical Engineering Department will review all admission information of entering freshmen to determine scholarship eligibility. To be considered, students must indicate they will major in one of the paper science related majors on their University application. First semester entering students admitted to the Paper Science and Chemical Engineering Department, whose admission information (ACT or equivalent and rank in class) predicts a high potential for academic success, may be awarded a scholarship if sufficient funds are available. The Foundation will advise the Financial Aid Office after the Annual Meeting (in the spring before the new academic year) whether or not sufficient funds will be available for freshmen scholarship awards for the coming fall semester. To retain the scholarship for the second semester a minimum grade point average (gpa) of 2.500 must be earned the first semester.

Upperclassmen

(Sophomore, Junior, and Senior) majoring in Paper Science and Engineering, Engineering Management-Paper Science or Chemical Engineering - Paper Science who have earned a cumulative gpa of 3.000 or more will receive the appropriate scholarship, (see Scholarship Value below) based on cumulative earned gpa. Probationary scholarship status may be awarded for one semester if the gpa is less than 3.000 but at least 2.900, based on funds available. To be eligible for further scholarship awards, the cumulative gpa must be restored to a minimum of 3.000 by the end of the probationary semester.

Transfer Students

Students transferring into one of the eligible paper related majors from other departments or colleges of Miami University, with a minimum cumulative gpa of 3.000, will be eligible for scholarships. Academic credits earned at institutions other than Miami University will not be considered in determining scholarship eligibility. Students will be eligible after their first semester at Miami is completed (if a 3.000 gpa is achieved).

How to Apply

The admission application of first semester or transfer students must show that the student plans to enter the Paper and Chemical Engineering Program. A scholarship application must be completed.  The P&CE Department will then review all admission information to determine scholarship eligibility.

Requirements

ALL scholarship awardees must be a registered in one of the eligible paper related majors and registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours approved by the P&CE Department. If a student drops below 12 credit hours or changes majors, the Foundation Office must be notified, and the scholarship award will be rescinded.

Non-Ohio U.S. residents

An "out-of-state" supplement of $1,000 per semester is awarded to qualified students.

Non-U.S. citizens

Scholarship awards to foreign students who meet academic requirements will be made by individual evaluation. Considerations will include, but not be limited to, other financial support for which the foreign student is eligible or which has been granted (e.g. tuition and fee waiver); Foundation funds available; and other appropriate factors. The award decision will be made by consultation between the Department Chairperson and the Foundation Executive Director.

Renewability

Qualified students may receive scholarships for a maximum of 8 semesters.

Co-op students

Scholarship qualified students who will be co-oping for a semester, may resume their scholarship upon returning from co-op assignment. Please notify the Foundation Business Coordinator to ensure timely reinstatement of appropriate scholarship awards.

Summer

To be eligible for a scholarship during the summer, a student must be enrolled for a total of 12 credit hours during the summer sessions. Scholarship disbursements will be credited to the student account. Students planning to attend summer school are requested to so inform the Foundation Administrative Associate to ensure that proper scholarship disbursements are made.
