Paper & Chemical Engineering

The Department takes pride in that its primary focus is on undergraduate education. Excellent opportunties for about 110 students enrolled in our three majors are provided by 8 full-time faculty members.

The Department offers undergraduate majors in Chemical Engineering (concentrations in biochemical, environmental and paper engineering), Paper Science and Engineering, and Engineering Management with technical specialty in Paper and Environmental Engineering. The Department also offers a master’s degree program. Students are also encouraged to consider the combined bachelor's/master's degree program.

Students who choose to study paper science in any of the undergraduate majors of the Department are eligible for scholarships offered by the industry-supported Miami University Paper Science and Engineering Foundation.

The Department has designed the co-op program to give students actual working experience in the industry related to their major. Students gain practical knowledge that complements the more formal university course work, as well as financial assistance for the work performed on the job.

Opportunities for international studies are available through the Department’s collaboration with the Helsinki University of Technology. Students can also elect to spend a semester of study at the Luxembourg campus of Miami University.

We encourage students to engage in research under the supervision of the Department Faculty. Opporunities for paid summer research are available for our undergraduate students.
